Studio Policies

Billing

Lessons will be conducted in half-hour increments.

Payment ($24.00 per half hour) is expected at time lesson is given, unless other arrangements are made in advance. (Payment by the month is preferable).

An annual events/materials fee of $20.00 per student will be charged in September.

Cancellations

If you will be missing a lesson, a 24-hour notice is required (exception: illness). Failure to notify within 24 hours will result in a charge for the lesson missed.

If you decide to terminate piano instruction for any reason, two weeks’ notice is required.

Materials

Students are responsible for purchasing all necessary books and materials. Books are available at Music and Arts Center (Kiln Creek shopping center, near Trek bike shop). Please let me know if there is a particular piece or style of music you would like to study. I encourage you to visit the music store in order to see the variety of books, music collections, and teaching helps which are available.

Yearly progress evaluations are provided for your information.

Schedule

The fall instructional session begins the week of Labor Day and concludes in mid-December.

The winter session runs from January to March, and the spring session begins the first week in April and concludes in mid-June.

The 6-week summer session normally runs from mid-June to late July.

Performances

An annual recital is held in the spring for all students.

More advanced students will participate in the Honors program, in which they will learn 4 classical pieces, an ensemble piece, and prepare a report on a composer. Honors students will participate in an additional recital during the year.

Twice a year, all students are involved in piano parties, in which they play prepared pieces based on a particular theme, and sharpen their musical skills through a variety of games and activities. Parents are welcome to attend and assist at the parties, if desired.

In addition, I arrange for students to share their gifts of music with residents at local convalescent homes 3-4 times a year.

What Else

In addition to traditional half-hour lessons, hour-long seminars are offered during the summer, focusing on sight-reading, ear training, music history and accompaniment technique. “Introduction to Piano” seminars are conducted for interested students who have had no previous piano instruction.
